Westminster Abbey


Prince William and Kate Middleton will be married on the 29th April 2011 in Westminster Abbey in London. It is the historical setting for all coronations, burials and weddings for the British Monarchy for almost a thousand years.


History Of Westminster Abbey


The history of Westminster Abbey stretches back to 624 when it is believed to have been founded by Mellitus, the Bishop of London. The original building dates to 1050 and was used as the last coronation of an Anglo-Saxon King, Edward the Confessor, after the Norman conquest, it has been used by the new rulers as their coronation site. Henry the III was the first to be buried there and started the tradition that has continued to this day.
